How a gemstone works astrologically

Each of the 9 navagraha planets has a corresponding gem — Ruby for Sun, Pearl for Moon, Red Coral for Mars, Emerald for Mercury, Yellow Sapphire for Jupiter, Diamond for Venus, Blue Sapphire for Saturn, Hessonite for Rahu, Cat's Eye for Ketu. Wearing the gem of a beneficial planet strengthens its positive vibration.

Why ascendant matters more than sun sign

Most "free gemstone calculators" use your sun sign. Vedic astrology uses your ascendant (Lagna) — the rising sign at the moment of your birth. Same birth date can have any of 12 ascendants depending on birth time. Always get your gem recommendation from your Lagna, not your Rashi alone.

Test before you commit

Always test a gemstone for 3 days before going to gold/silver. Wear it as a pendant or in a copper bangle first. If you feel calm, focused and lucky — proceed to ring setting. If you feel restless, get headaches, or sleep poorly — stop. The chart agrees or it doesn't.

Quality matters

A gemstone must be: natural (not synthetic), unheated, untreated, eye-clean, and of adequate weight (typically 3-5 carats for primary stones). A low-quality or treated stone often has no effect or negative effects. Buy from a certified gemologist.

When to wear a new stone (muhurat)

Each planet's gem is worn on the corresponding day, at sunrise. Ruby on Sunday, Pearl on Monday, Red Coral on Tuesday, etc. Activate the stone with the planet's beej mantra (108 chants) before first wear.
